Keston was at one-time a village in Kent
Now part of the London Borough of Bromley. It lies on the edge of Hayes Common.
It’s small church is unusual in that does not have a dedication to a saint.
The River Ravensbourne has its source at Keston Ponds. The "London LOOP" walk passes the ponds (where many a small boy caught his first roach, perch etc.) on its way from Farnborough to West Wickham.
Keston village is served by two Transport for London bus links, the 146 Bromley North - Downe; 246 Bromley North - Westerham (Chartwell during the summer).
The village of Keston was originally called Chestan as recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1080 although it was pronounced Cestan due to the Saxon C being expressed by the letters Ch.
The name was probably derived from the word Chesterton meaning ‘the place of camp or fortification’ referring to the Roman camp site southeast of the village. Some also believe the name was connected with Julius Caesar and was derived from Koesar’s Town, Koesar being the way the Britons of the time pronounced Caesar.
The Britons at this time also pronounced the C as we do the letter K today hence the village’s name became Keston.
Keston is not a traditional village clustered around a central feature such as a church, instead it is made up of two clusters of buildings about a mile apart. One cluster is around Commonside and the other around Leaves-green.
Now part of the London Borough of Bromley. It lies on the edge of Hayes Common.
